C asa Grande, Arizona is located in scenic Pinal County, at the midway point between Phoenix and Tucson. Casa Grande is the largest town in Pinal county. This is also an area of contrasts...a modern town with a rural heritage; a population that is on the move yet very involved in their community. The town itself is named for the unique ruins that are settled on its landscape. These ruins are called Casa Grande, or Big House, and continue to amaze and confound those who travel from around the globe to see them. In fact, the Casa Grande ruins are one of the largest and most mysterious prehistoric structures ever found in North America, and is today the United States' very first archaeological site to be preserved by the federal government. The town of Casa Grande currently supports a population of approximately 30,000 residents, representing an increase of some thirteen percent since the year 2000. The average age of a resident here is 32 years old, with an annual household income of around $36,312. The largest employment sector in the area is manufacturing, with over fifteen percent of locals working in this field. The retail trade takes second place, with nearly twelve percent of Casa Grande residents working in this sector.
Due to its convenient location and temperate year-round climate, Casa Grande has long been a popular destination for tourists, especially snowbirds escaping the colder winter climates of other parts of the country. It is their patronage to the area that has helped Casa Grande develop the reputation as a first-class health resort region. Many of these regular visitors have chosen to take up full time residence in the area, perhaps explaining the popularity of Casa Grande as a relocation destination. The town maintains a charming, scenic beauty, full of attractive architecture, historic buildings, and the town's original railroad station. Casa Grande has further benefited from implementation of its Main Street program over ten years ago. This provides a structure by which the downtown area is simultaneously preserved yet updated in order to create a viable, pedestrian friendly area. The facades and architecturally significant aspects of building have been preserved, while their internal spaces have been opened up to make way for a variety of cafes, retail shops, and other interesting attractions.
For those seeking arts and culture, the town of Casa Grande provides a variety of offerings throughout the year. The Casa Grande Art Museum hosts a variety of exhibits, ranging from sculpture to multimedia. Often included in these diverse shows are pieces by exceptional Arizona artists. The Casa Grande Players are the area's theater troupe, and offer several seasons of community theater. Casa Grande is also the site for the annual Pinal County Fair held each March. It is also where you will find the annual O'Odham Tash Celebration, one of the most unique gatherings in the nation. Each February, Native American tribes from around the Southwest region and across the country converge in Casa Grande for a celebration that includes art, rodeos, powwows, parades and ceremonial dances.
Of course, when it is not the site of a national gathering of tribes, or the home of one of the most unique man-made ruins in the world, Casa Grande also offers some of the same recreational opportunities that you would expect in a comfortable residential community. Here you will find two senior centers, museums, a community pool, four municipal golf courses, and dozens of national and neighborhoods parks. There is also an archery range and rodeo facilities. Casa Grande has a rich and impressive past that is fluidly incorporated into the fabric of this modern community. Full of the scenic beauty of the American Southwest, Casa Grande is a town that offers something for singles, seniors and families alike.
